    I bought one of these recently, it's great. I have questions, though, it's such an intriguing device. I have a 10000mAh battery bank (for an iphone) that I charged with a parkside battery. That battery bank has 50 Wh of capacity, however my 4Ah Parkside battery has only 80 Wh of capacity. How can the size be so different (the parkside is much much larger than the bank). Do you know why? I only wish I had one of these adaptors when we had a power cut last year, I was stuck in the car for hours on end charging my phone... This is a game changer.

    • @DubiousEngineering
      @DubiousEngineering 12 дней назад

      It’s likely that your 10Ah bank is over specified…. It’s quite common for mildly unscrupulous manufacturers to claim more power than they can deliver. The best thing is to check how many full charges you get from 10 % battery life on the same device…. Then you’ll understand the weight and size difference!

    • @codetutor6593
      @codetutor6593 12 дней назад

      @@DubiousEngineering Interesting! The powerbank charges 2 full charges of an iphone xr (11Wh battery). judging that the power bank used well over half the 4Ah (80Wh) Lidl battery to charge, that perhaps means that there's a dc to dc conversion cost? I must try charging the phone directly and see if it charges the potential 7 theoretical times. I know this is off topic from your fantastic device, but I've gone too far down the rabbit hole. Thanks for the reply.

    Hi, if you don't mind, I have a quick warning about those blue Lipo Balance chargers that you're using (IMAX B6 or knockoff thereof). The B6 is fairly well known in the FPV drone community for a common failure mode involving its balance charging circuitry (which you're not using in this video, fortunately). Basically, it appears that over many balance charge cycles, its balancing or cell voltage measuring circuitry goes out of calibration and eventually fails, usually on a single channel. Initially, this shows in lengthened charge times, especially in the final phase of charging. Later, it might fail to finish charging at all. Eventually, there are three ways in which it will fail: A) the balancing circuitry pops and the charger is dead or semi-dead. B) the charger gets confused about the voltage and overcharges a cell, up to a fiery conclusion. C) the cell circuitry shorts to ground and then A) happens but a bit more energetically As this issue is very rare on B6 clone variants (or any other chargers) which include a fan, it's presumable that the failure is caused by repeated overheating.

      @@DubiousEngineering (oops, posted it from a wrong acc the first time) My own B6AC failed in this manner, took longer and longer to finish charging, until one day it overcharged one cell of a 4S lipo to 4.5V. The charger still showed 4.1V on it, but the battery was visibly inflating which made me verify it with a lipo checker. Then I promptly tossed the lipo out of a window, where it eventually went up in smoke.

    Considering that one is far, FAR more likely to get a counterfeit 18650 battery than not, what proof do you have that ANY of these cells were made anywhere other than China? Labels and even cell markings under the labels mean NOTHING, NADA, ZIP... The situation is so incredibly bad that some people have been buying used, discarded battery packs from name brand laptops because those large concerns were far more like to get authentic cells to make them. Even specialized on-line battery sellers get Chinese junk because the supply chain is compromised at some point - someone along the chain presents them as authentic when there is no way to know. Having actual, proven cells (somehow!) of various Japanese brands, weighing them, and then comparing them to fakes is probably the best way.

    Bit late to the game 😁 but please, it's NOT a vernier caliper. It's a digital caliper. Vernier calipers have a Vernier scale for reading tiny fractions of the units used (say, down to 1 thousandth of an inch). It's a particular use of the word. Without the Vernier scale, they're not Vernier calipers, which sadly will fade into the horizon & be lost to the past. Anyway, I actually came here to say thanks for the vid. My caliper display was only illuminating partial digits, not all sectors of the display. I disassembled it and everything just fell out including the zebra which had me baffled...it just looks like a slip of plastic but looking at it under a microscope I could see these laminations. I couldn't see how the LCD was connected to anything! Your vid sorted the whole mystery, and it went back together perfectly, works 100% I had to do a little manipulation of the zebra connector to get the "strips" lined up & connected to all segments but it's great. Thanks a mill!

    If you really need 1.5v/cell then fine but I'll stick with NiMH, not only cheaper but so much quieter.

    Wonder if I could do this to run a couple of 3D printers in my garage 🤔

      Easy! …. Get the 12 or 24v printers and bypass the psu for maximum efficiency!

    Nice concept, but at £150 a pop on ebay I think it's expensive for a light duty soldering iron.

      Fair comment! …. The ts100 and ts101 are both fantastic and a third of the price … usb C PD irons…. Well recommended!

      @@DubiousEngineering I'm a proud owner of a 40 year old 240v Weller variable temperature soldering iron station, that's more than proved itself capable over the decades. I for one object to owning/using workshop tools that rely on lithium batteries for power. They essentially render these 'consumer-grade' gadgets landfill the moment their sub-standard Chinese batteries fail. With regard to how useful and/or cost effective super-capacitor powered devices are, can only be tested over a similarly extensive time frame. One cannot deny the novelty of powering small devices with super caps, but in the long run, this type of gadgetry would never be relied upon in a professional environment. This is just my opinion, I could be wrong. Keep up with these great reviews. 👍

      Yeah... I have to think hard to solder these days... Especially on camera!! ... Shaky hands are coming at 50 years old!!!
